Day 3: Discipling Leaders for Multiplication

2 Timothy 2:1–2 (NIV84) You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

Ephesians 4:11–13 (NIV84) It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Pastor J.D. Greear of The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, says that they measure success not only by their seating capacity but by their sending capacity. Each year, the church commissions around 120 members; including some of their best leaders, volunteers, and givers; to leave and join church plants in other cities and nations. In the last ten years, they have helped plant more than twenty U.S churches and around ninety international works, sending out more than five hundred people.

Greear says that the Summit has “gained by losing,” because training and sending people is how the church is meant to function.

Another pastor put it this way, “My church grew when I finally understood that my job was not to do all the ministry, but to equip people for ministry.” They began to invest intentionally in a few emerging leaders, meeting regularly to pray, study Scripture, and talk about real-life ministry. Years later, those individuals are now pastors, missionaries, and key leaders themselves. The sending pastor said, “I thought I was ‘losing’ some of my best people, but in reality, we were multiplying.”

Open Bible’s mission does not end with gathering attenders; it calls us to develop leaders. Our future does not rest on a few gifted personalities, but on thousands of Spirit-empowered leaders—some visible, some hidden—who embrace God’s call in their contexts.

Paul tells Timothy to entrust what he has heard to “faithful people who will be able to teach others also.” Ephesians 4 reminds us that Christ gives leaders to the church to equip His people for works of service so the body of Christ may be built up.

Leadership development is not a side project; it is central to God’s strategy for multiplication.

Prayer and fasting sharpens our discernment. When we humble ourselves before God, He often highlights people we’ve overlooked; individuals who may not “look like leaders” yet but carry a calling from Him. This season is a powerful time to ask, “Lord, who have You already placed in our church that I should invest in?”

Imagine if every Open Bible church intentionally developed a handful of leaders each year. We would see a rising generation of pastors, church planters, missionaries, and marketplace leaders firmly rooted in Christ and deeply aligned with the Mission to Multiply.

Prayer Focus:

Ask God to show you three people in your congregation/sphere of influence He wants you to invest in.

Pray for your current leadership team to be renewed in calling, character, and competence.

Pray for your District, Regional and National leaders, that God would strengthen and guide them.

Devote time to listening prayer about leadership development. Keep a notebook nearby to write down names and ideas the Holy Spirit gives you.

Nuestro futuro no descansa en unas pocas personalidades talentosas, sino en miles de líderes empoderados por el Espíritu —algunos visibles, otros ocultos— que abrazan el llamado de Dios en sus propios contextos.

Pablo le dice a Timoteo que encomiende lo que ha oído a “personas fieles que sean capaces de enseñar también a otros”. Efesios 4 nos recuerda que Cristo da líderes a la

La oración y el ayuno afinan nuestro discernimiento. Cuando nos humillamos delante de Dios, Él a menudo resalta a personas que hemos pasado por alto; individuos que tal vez aún no “parecen líderes”, pero que llevan un llamado de parte de Él. Esta temporada es un tiempo poderoso para preguntar: “Señor, ¿a quiénes ya has puesto en nuestra iglesia en quienes debo invertir?”

Imagina si cada iglesia de Open Bible desarrollara intencionalmente a un puñado de líderes cada año. Veríamos levantarse una nueva generación de pastores, plantadores de iglesias, misioneros y líderes en el ámbito laboral, firmemente arraigados en Cristo y profundamente alineados con la Misión de Multiplicar.

Enfoque de Oración:

Pide a Dios que te muestre tres personas en tu congregación o esfera de influencia en quienes Él quiere que inviertas.

Ora para que tu equipo actual de liderazgo sea renovado en llamado, carácter y competencia.

Ora por tus líderes distritales, regionales y nacionales, para que Dios los fortalezca y los guíe.

Dedica tiempo a la oración de escucha enfocada en el desarrollo de liderazgo. Ten un cuaderno cerca para anotar los nombres e ideas que el Espíritu Santo te revele.
