Mike & Nancy Juntunen (Hungary)

Missions has always been an important part of Mike and Nancy’s life. Mike has made several short-term missions trips, including trips to the Philippines, Kenya, Uganda, Ukraine and twice to Hungary and Romania. He has also gone on three trips with the church in Austin, Minnesota, to help build a youth center in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Nancy grew up in a family with a special interest in missions and is a sister to missionary Dr. Leona Venditti. Continued below...

In 2007 Mike and Nancy were appointed by the Department of International Ministries to be the directors of INSTE in the Hungarian language. They live in Debrecen, Hungary, and currently oversee INSTE groups studying in the Hungarian language in Hungary, Ukraine, and Holland. Our mission is to make disciples of Christ and train leaders in the church through INSTE in Hungary.

We thank God that revival is happening, especially among the Hungarian Gypsies, but this makes the need even more urgent to disciple the many new believers and to train leaders for the new churches. Almost none of the new believers can afford to go away to Bible college, so INSTE is perfect for this task. In addition, there are many existing churches that lack biblically trained leadership and pastors.

We are excited to train people like Ferenc and Anna Balogh, who were discipled through the INSTE program and are now pastoring a church. One of our passions is to help train the next generation of pastors and leaders who will help the work to continue to expand in Hungary, as it has all over the world.

We are working now to expand Level One INSTE into more churches by spreading the news about INSTE and training group leaders. At the same time, we are working with a team of translators who are translating Level Two INSTE into Hungarian. The first two books are finished and we are planning to start a Level Two pilot group by the winter of 2013. In order to carry out these tasks, we visit many churches, preaching to congregations and encouraging the pastors to use INSTE. Our goal is to hand over leadership of INSTE in Hungary to Hungarians.

Special Projects-INSTE Hungary

Translation- There is a great need for pastors and church leaders throughout Hungary. We know of several churches without pastors, as well as villages where there are Christians but no churches because no one is able to lead them. And most of those who are called to be pastors are not able to go away to a Bible college to study. INSTE is helping to fulfill this need. The four books of Level One have already been translated into Hungarian and several groups have graduated with most of these students serving in various areas of ministry in the church. However, Level Two is needed to help further train and develop pastors and leaders for these churches. The first four books of Level Two have been translated and we hope to begin pilot groups soon. There are 24 books in Level Two INSTE and it costs about $1,500 per book to translate. We thank God for providing the funds needed thus far, but we do need continued support in order to finish the work that has begun. Thank you for partnering with us to train the next generation of pastors and church leaders in Hungary.

Scholarships- God is doing a tremendous work among the Roma (Gypsy) people in Hungary. Many are giving their lives to the Lord and new churches are starting. As a result, most of the students in INSTE are from the gypsy churches. The majority of these people are not able to find decent jobs and struggle to provide even the basic needs for their families.

Just $30 will cover a student’s cost for one semester. Wouldn’t you like to know you had a part in training pastors to lead these new believers?
