What’s Your Passion?

I love the title of Evangelist Ken Gaub’s new book, What’s Your Passion? Passion applies to an emotion that is deeply stirring or uncontrollable. Passion can get us into trouble (an illicit love affair), or it can become the driving force that enables us to reach a lifelong dream (winning a marathon).

What’s your passion? My oldest son says, “Give me ten minutes with a person and I can tell you their passion.” What would you talk with him about? Log your time for one day, especially those hours outside of work. What do you do with the minutes God has given you? Who are the payees in your checkbook? For what would you risk your money, lifestyle, or reputation?

When I was interviewing Open Bible evangelists for this issue, their passion to share Christ’s love with others was apparent. I don’t know that any have become wealthy – although if they had applied their talents and hard work to other fields they could have been. Some travel extensively. (If you think sleeping in a different bed each night and dealing with different time zones each day seems glamorous, try it.) Some minister in churches or other venues that cannot even afford them. These servants go anyway, knowing they will have to find other means to pay their expenses.

So, who do you think of when you hear the term evangelist? Billy Graham? Luis Palau? Peter Youngren? When you read Victor Reichenbach’s article (page 4) and the interview (page 5) you might add others to your list. It takes a unique type of individual to serve in this capacity. Not all of them draw large followings, but they each possess a passion to bring many people into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

How about you?
